Pantex was founded in
1972 by Dr. Neil Y. Chiamori in response to the pressing need of
physicians, researchers, and laboratories to obtain kits to detect
and measure picogram quantities of specific circulating hormones,
all of these in the many forms in which they are produced,
activated, or metabolized in health and disease. Immunoassay products prepared by
Pantex permit measurement of hormones in blood entering and leaving
endocrine organs, tissues and biological fluids; facilitate
accurate assessment of organ function to allow appropriate
diagnosis and treatment by physicians. In 1976 Dr. Guy E. Abraham, a
pioneer in the production of anti-steroid antibodies and the
setting up of some of the first RIAs for steroid hormones, joined
Pantex's research department. This made it
possible for Pantex to offer a complete line of Iodinated Steroid
Kits and Antisera. In 1995 Dr. Romulo Garza joined
Pantex on a joint venture to produce anti-steroid antibodies. Dr.
Garza was the founder (1969) and President of Radioassay Systems
Lab Inc. (now MP Biomedicals and formerly a part of the Diagnostic
Division of ICN). Over a period of 5 years
(1972-1977), Doctors Garza and Abraham published 8 papers on
steroid hormone methodology in peer-reviewed journals,
international journals, and a book chapter entitled,
"Radioimmunoassay of Steroids," in Handbook of Radioimmunoassay,
Volume 5, G.E. Abraham, ed., Marcel Dekker, Inc., New York, 1977.
Dr. Garza is a member of the Endocrine Society and American Thyroid
Association as well as other scientific societies. Dr. Garza got
his doctorate under the late Dr. Jean A. Dussault, considered to be
the "father" of blood spot technology in neonatal testing. Dr.
Garza was a senior author on four publications with Dr. Dussault.
With the passing of Dr. Chiamori in 2003, Dr. Garza assumed
ownership of Pantex and is its current President
and Senior Scientist. |
